Parliament - Shame Shame !!

What a bunch of self serving, sub-standard jokers. Sorry, but I am unable to find a word in the english language that could sufficiently express my disdain and disgust for our "great" parliamentarians.

I am at a loss. Readers are free to help me find that one adjective that could describe this ONE act of parliament forcing the President of India to sign on the dotted line. Forcing the President of India to give his assent to the "Save us parliamentarians" bill 2006 !!

Our founding fathers would be rolling in their graves. The only institution that is standing tall is the office of the President. The one institution that has been confered with the least powers, so as to prevent that one person institution from acting arbitrarily, has come to the country's rescue. The President is left to save the "spirit of the constitution" from the arbitrariness of the combined might of Parliament. What a shame !

Never in their wildest dreams (or should I say nightmares) our founding father would have imagined such a situation.

This is truly a black day for our country.

I do remember, when during the Prime Ministership of I.K Gujral, the government had recommened the dissolution of the UP assembly for what seemed like political gain. The Prime Minister had warned his cabinet that the then President of the Republic, Shri K.R. Narayanan would never give his assent to it. However the collective will of the Cabinet prevailed and the dissolution order was sent to the President for his assent.

The President promptly returned it back to the Cabinet for its reconsideration. Subsequently, good sense prevailed and the Cabinet backed down.

But in the present scenario, there seems to be total lack of any good-sense and probity in this act of Parliament. Our elected members in the Lok Sabha and our "wise elders" in the Rajya Sabha have let our country down. They have failed us, they have dishonored the founders of the Indian republic and burdened our future generations with this black mark. Shame on them. Do they even have an "inner voice" left.

Readers, please give vent to your feelings on this. We need to build as much support as possible.

Our Parliament must be stopped.

Our President needs us.

He can use all the support he can get and we jolly well give it to him.
