The WTO has a new Director-General. The decision was taken by "consensus" at the General Council meeting. Pascal Lamy will be the WTO's 5th Director-General. The present/outgoing Director-General is Supachai Panitchpakdi.
Just a few months back, the US had proposed Wolfowitz's name for the presidency of the World Bank. But there was unusual quite in the European capitals on this. The french authorities had only "taken note" of the nomination. This was unusual, because Europe and the us relations was not in the pink of health. At least thats what its seemed like.
But like hunters who get together to share the spoils, so did the two get together to share the top posts. And the rest of the world was once again left watching as mere spectators.
The us appointed paul as president of the bank and as a quid pro quo, agreed to support Lamy's ascendency to the top job in the WTO. And ofcourse the IMF goes to the eurpean's anyways.
This just leaves one more to complete the spoils. Yes, its the UN. And its the us's pocket borough. With Europe looking the other way, we will soon have another administration official presiding over the great UN.
Looks like the us and eu have finally started the kiss and make up routine.
How romantic !!

Sure do.
It happened in cricket a few years back when the traditional rivals Australia and England patched up to deny India and other South-Asian countries the share in the spoils! But thanks to Jagmohan Dalmiya, the Aussie-NZ-England combine was defeated by SA-Ind-Pak-SL-WI combine.
Similar coup d'état needs to orchestrated by the Third-World combine to convince the rich to share the spoils!
