Just the other day I was browsing the internet as usual aimlessly reading anything and everything I could lay my eyes on and I chanced upon a brief history of the Emperors of Japan. The account made very interesting reading and little known facts such as the one that says that the present monarchy of Japan is perhaps the longest continues monarchy in the world, was surprising to learn.
Did you know that the present emperor of Japan, Tenno Heika (aka Akihito), is the 125th emperor of Japan ?
The first emperor to rule Japan was Jimmu Tennō (aka Kamuyamato Iwarebiko) and he ruled between 660585 BC.
It is widely believed that Emperor Shōwa (aka Hirohito) who ruled during the Second World War, was largely sidelined by the military though they used the Emperor's divinity to pump up the morale of soldiers at war.
Another interesting fact is that President Truman of the United States, after Japan was defeated in the WW II, wanted to try Emperor Hirohito for war crimes but was dissuaded by General MacArthur who wanted the monarchy to continue as a symbol of continuity and cohesion of the Japanese people.
If you wish to know more of the emperors of Japan, go to the pages below and check them out.
